AcroSecure RS-116 FAQ

AcroSecure DVR FAQ:

Q1:

Why are AnexTEK¡¦s surveillance products the best choice?

AnexTEK offers a complete product line for various requirements and applications, features including stand-alone 4-channel DVRs (AcroSecure ES-104, ES-204), Linux-based 4-channel DVRs, 8 and 16-channel DVRs (AcroSecure LT-104, LT-008/016plus, RS-108/116), extra-large storage capacity DVRs with RAID funcationality (RecA R15, RecA JR), IP camera support and CCTV accessories. Furthermore, AnexTEK is known for its professional integration capability, praised throughout the industry for its technical quality and flexibility.

Q2:

What is a Digital Video Recorder and what are its advantages over VCR systems?

A digital video recorder (DVR) can record video images, storing them onto one or more hard disk drives. DVR technology is in the process of replacing the traditional VCR technology used in many CCTV systems. A DVR provides better recording image quality and longer recording duration than VCRs. It also reduces the total cost of ownership due to the recording media itself, and is vastly more efficient in regards to its management requirements. Additionally, the digitally recorded material can be widely distributed and managed through a Local Area Network (LAN) and/or the Internet.
More information is available in AnexTEK¡¦s White Paper entitled
Analysis of Digital vs. Analog Video for Security Surveillance Applications.

Q3:

Why does AnexTEK choose MPEG-4 compression to be employed in the AcroSecure DVR?

Major compression technologies currently popular in DVR applications are H.32X (H.261/H.263), JPEG, Motion-JPEG (M-JPEG), MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. MPEG-4 provides significantly higher compression rates and longer recording duration. The AcroSecure DVR uses MPEG-4 compression technology to provide up to a 100:1 compression ratio.

Q4:

What is the frame size of the AcroSecure DVR?

The VHS frame size is 14KB, and the S-VHS frame size is 18KB. For JPEG compression technology, the frame size is around 14-18KB. MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are 5-8KB and 11.67-15KB, respectively. The AcroSecure DVR uses MPEG-4 technology and needs only 1KB-5KB per frame, depending upon the resolution and compression quality settings.

Q5:

Does the AcroSecure DVR have any control mechanism to restrict access?

Users must supply a password to enter the system setup utility.

Q6:

Why do AcroSecure DVRs use a Linux-based operating system?

Stability is one of the most important factors in security surveillance environments. The need for 24/7 system functionality is fundamental. Therefore, the AcroSecure DVR is built upon Linux, providing the most stable operating system technology.

Q7:

Does the AcroSecure DVR provide a selectable frame rate?

Yes, each AcroSecure DVR provides frame rate configuration control for each channel. This is a good way to plan and conserve storage capacity.

Q8:

What will happen if there is a power outage?

A traditional VCR uses VHS or Beta tape formats to record images. The following are disadvantages of using traditional VCRs:
1. Image quality decreases due demagnetization because of repeated use.
2. The lifespan of the tape decreases or the tape becomes unusable due to excessive humidity.
3. Large storage space is required for the amount of tapes necessary to archive image data over a long time period.
4. Searching and playback functions cannot be performed without pausing recording. This may increase the chance that a significant event is missed. However, DVRs support multi-tasking, providing simultaneous recording, playback and remote surveillance.
5. The traditional VCR cannot be monitored from anywhere. Its analog signal cannot be accessed via digital signals over a Local Area Network (LAN) or the Internet, whereas a DVR can be viewed as live pictures or recorded data anywhere with a network connection.

Q4.

The audio quality of the phone calls is not satisfactory. There are some occasional cracks in the other personals voice.

Please send the SP230 back for repair. There was a hardware bug in the earlier makes. After the bug was corrected, all the SP230s produced by the factories thereafter do not have this problem.
